It was fantastic to attend and be asked to speak at the inaugural Chartered Institute of Housing and National Housing Federation Housing Community Summit in Liverpool earlier this week.
There were lots of consistent themes from the event including the importance of partnerships, the need for more social housing of all types and tenure, the impact of the cost of living and the challenging financial and fiscal environment. We also learned courtesy of Sam Pratt that badgers and badger families (as nice as they are) appear to have more rights than families facing or in temporary accommodation!
There is a buzz about the sector and hope for a brighter future for all and we wait in expectation for the Autumn spending review and budget next year that in order to reach their target of 1.5mn homes by the next election the government will invest in critically needed housing to support vulnerable families and communities to kick start growth and stop the ever worsening cost of temporary accommodation.
