It’s been great being at the The Labour Party conference over the last few days. It’s the first time for Cornerstone Place and it was a bit like being in the twilight zone!
We were fortunate enough to be invited to speak on a panel (Housing as a Driver for Growth) chaired by Rachael Williamson CIHM from Chartered Institute of Housing and hosted by Ian Reed from Plus Dane Housing with excellent insights and a rallying call to the sector to keep pushing from Daniel Tomlinson MP. The panel was well attended and sparked some lively discussion between the panel and audience. (https://lnkd.in/dkFhnR5r) We heard some great insights from the other speakers Kate Parker from Procure Plus and Aileen Evans from Grand Union Housing Group.
We attended a lot over very interesting events with a housing focus including a private roundtable with Matthew Pennycook MP, Housing Minister from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and from leaders across finance, local government and the development sector where some of the existing barriers and potential solutions to accelerating housing delivery were discussed openly and pragmatically. It was fantastic to hear Keir Starmer's commitment in his speech to house veterans, victims of domestic abuse violence and young care leavers. We hope to be able to help deliver some of the much needed housing in these sectors.
It was great to also attend events hosted by our hashtag#FutureEcomomyAlliance partners Social Enterprise UK, Social Investment Business, Access - The Foundation for Social Investment, Co-operatives UK, Better Society Capital, and stand in solidarity with Ukraine at their fringe event.
In the evenings we bounced from party to party including seeing the new Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds MP at the Co-operatives UK party and seeing Greater Manchester Combined Authority's Andy Burnham doing a mix of DJing and karaoke at a Fabian Society event! We finished off last night with Dean Hochlaf and Daniel Dumoulin watching Chris Bryant MP sing(ish) Stars from Les Miserable with a final nightcap at the Pullman Hotel which was packed when we left at 1:30am…
