Cornerstone Place at the Roundtable

It was fantastic for Cornerstone Place to be invited to the Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity Roundtable where Andy Burnham shared his visionary plans for the region and a cross sector group of collaborators worked together to uncover barriers and propose solutions to help deliver more genuinely affordable social housing.

Andy Burnham outlined his coordinated approach bringing together better transport through the B Network, modernising education with an alternative to university, reforming the benefits systems and of course housing. There are currently 5,000 families in temporary accommodation including, tragically, 6,500 children who are too often removed from their schools and shuttled out of area which of course has long term impacts on their attainment and well being.

Central to the housing strategy is the housing first model which Andy learned about in Finland but alongside this is the admirable ambition to create truly affordable net zero homes. We are proud to be contributing to this already through our net zero developments across numerous sites in GM and we are in discussions with multiple GM Local Authorities and hope to expand our work to bring many hundreds of truly affordable net zero homes to people in GM in housing need over the next few years.
