Cornerstone Place exhibit at New Homes New Ways, The Building Centre, London

Liz Kennedy

It was a privilege to be one of the partners at the New Homes New Ways exhibition opening night yesterday.

'There are plenty of small sites and there's plenty of money to do this' was the message from Jez Sweetland, Project Director of Housing Festival who spoke so well. 'You all believe that homes are central to our communities, part of the very fabric of what makes us human.'

Everybody needs a stable and secure home but the temporary accommodation and refugee housing crises are at breaking point costing the taxpayer £1.7bn annually. The cost of not building the homes is now economically and socially unsustainable. We must act.

Other speakers from The Building Centre, Homes England and Crisis highlighted that Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), can unlock overlooked land and rethinking the economics can accelerate the supply of quality new homes.

Cornerstone Place's MMC building on Whitworth Road in Rochdale is one of the case studies exhibited as part of the solution.

Was great to catch up with Craig White from Agile - architect and main contractor for the Whitworth Road site.

Well curated by The Building Centre and Housing Festival, the free entry exhibition is open from now until 21st February 2025, come and have a look!
